Mickey Thompson TiresBack To Tire Manufacturers

Mickey Thompson is a specialty tire company that designs, develops, and distributes tires for street, strip, and off-road. The company was founded in 1963, and has become revolutionary in the tire business with wide low-profile street tires to rugged, aggressive-tread off-road tires. Presently, Mickey Thompson focuses on designing and producing original tread patterns and compounds to manufacture the best performance tires in the world.

Mickey Thompson has a wide variety of street, strip, truck, and off-road tires that fit many needs. In the street tire category, Mickey Thompson manufactures the Sportsman Series. The most popular tire in this series is the Sportsman S/T Radial. The Sportsman S/T is the biggest high performance street legal tire available on the market today. The tire was designed for T-buckets, hot-rods, street-rods, and muscle cars. Also, the Sportsman S/T is perfect for vehicles with shortened rear ends and tubbed fender wells that can accommodate a super wide rear tire. A unique tread design with directional tread pattern for improved wet traction is used for the Sportsman S/T, which enhances appearance, a polyester/fiberglass radial construction for an improved ride, and a rim flange protection that helps protect the wheels.

The ET Drag Series was designed to give drivers an advantage on the strip. Mickey Thompson used Real World research and development to give the slicks an advantage over the competition. The ET Drag Series is engineered for maximum traction with consistent ET's that have superior construction and compounding that is suitable for nearly every drag race application. Multiple sizes and compounds are available that require little or no burnout. The ET Drag Series Tire is designed and engineered to be a consistent and reliable tire.

For Trucks, The Baja Series is offered from Mickey Thompson. The most popular Baja Series tire is the Baja ATZ Radial Plus. Built for highway and light off-road use, the Baja ATZ is a great choice for a work truck or daily driver. The Baja ATZ Plus is mud and snow rated for all-season traction that also gives the driver a smooth and quiet ride. A radial construction design was used for the Baja ATZ to allow for better tread life, and a smooth ride, that can handle large amounts for towing. Siped tread lugs are added to the ATZ Plus for a better grip on ice, and a solid center rib to enhance the driving experience.

For the off-road market, Mickey Thompson offers the Mini Mag, the Stonewall, and the Baja Pro. This variety of unique tires come in many sizes to fit many off-road racing vehicles. Every off-road tire has a belted construction for strength and impact resistance from road obstacles.

New York Tire Dealers Association in Amityville, NY

Way back in April 1921, a group of tire dealers met at the old Automobile Club of America on West 54th Street and founded our association pledged, "To do business on the square." J.R. Benedict of the Hewitt Rubber Company, a tire manufacturer, called the initial meeting. Jerome T. Shaw of Tires magazine assisted in arranging the first meeting. In 1934, the association held its largest meetings and took an outstanding part in problems as they related to the independent tire dealer. It was at this time the name was changed to Greater New York Tire & Battery Association. In June 1937, the association entered into a contract with Charles F. Root under which Mr. Root assumed the general management of the organization.

For many years, no apparent need for a local organization seemed to exist and the only function held was the annual dinner dance. In 1969, Bert Schwarz asked Fred Dresdale, a past president of the National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association and a member of our local organization, to take the presidency. Under Fred's guidance, along with the help of men like Al Hansel, Dan Chiswick, Harry Jaffess, Steve German, Frank L. Cohen and Herb King, the organization was revitalized. The name was changed again to the Greater New York Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association. In 1989, the Officers and Board of Directors enacted a new set of by-laws to encompass the entire state of New York. Hence, the new name of the organization, the New York Tire Dealers Association.
